Hello; my name is Christie Cadette! I'm really excited to begin working on this film project. I already have a few ideas of what I'd like to do and I can't wait until I'll be able to have my hands on the raw film and edit everything together (what I presume will be my favorite part).
I'm interested in doing a black psychological horror for my movie opening. That's how I've personally categorized the genre based on the niche I'm trying to fulfill (lovers of Get Out [2019]) and themes I'm interested in (blackness, historical inequality, horror). I've always been drawn to similar subgenres like psychological thrillers and horrors for my own viewing pleasure and I truthfully don't see myself making something that I, as a consumer, would not watching. I enjoy identifying and dissecting the commentary on race in black horror, another subgenre, and that's something I've also always enjoyed consuming in media. I believe that discourse is essential alongside a meaningful piece that isn't solely just for the viewer's entertainment--and that's what I would look forward to providing if I was filming the movie in its entirety.
A large part of why I enjoy horror films is because I am an adrenaline fiend. I love exhilarating rollercoasters, and good jumpscares usually encourage me to consume a show, book, or video game. Psychological horrors provide not only scares, but also mind-twisting narratives that stay with people. Black horrors provide unique perspectives on life that aren't portrayed in the mainstream horror genre and weave in the rich culture of American Blackness that isn't usually represented outside of BET and sassy side characters. I enjoy the characteristics of both subgenres and am excited to depict a snippet of them in my 2-minute opening.
I think I'd do a good job creating a film opening in this genre because I genuinely love the type of films I'm going for and believe I have a lot to offer. I have many interdisciplinary interests and skills that I believe will translate well into filmmaking and I'm excited to do so.
